A ROMAN GLASS AMPHORISKOS (PERFUME CONTAINER)

c. 4th-5th Century AD

Free-blown of transparent pale green, almost clear, glass this vessel consists of a piriform body which extends into a cylindrical neck and terminates in flaring mouth with a folded rim. The amphoriskos stands on an applied foot of green glass and two blue-green bifurcated handles are applied from neck to rim. Thin trailing decoration is applied on the body of the vessel.

An excellent example of its type. Slight damage to the trailing on the body, otherwise intact. Iridescence present.
