A BYZANTINE TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP WITH GREEK INSCRIPTION

c. Late 5th-8th Century CE

This mold-made oil lamp sits on a ring base with a raised rim around the fill hole. A stylized palm tree or tree of life motif is above the nozzle and the Greek inscription “the light of Christ shines for all” is present on the shoulders.

In very fine condition with clear inscription and natural patina present. Restoration to base of lamp and seam.

9.1 x 6.32 x 3.21 cm (3.58 x 2.48 x 1.26 inches)
