A SAMARITAN TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP
Catalog:Oil Lamps:Jewish: stock #1330111

c. late 3rd -5th Century CE

Lamps of this type are often referred to as “box lamps” due to the straight sides of the nozzle. In this example the nozzle is separated from the body of the lamp by two horizontal lines above which a swastika, a common Samaritan motif, is present. The shoulders are decorated thoroughly with geometric designs, interrupted only for the small knob handle. The discus is broken, suggesting that the lamp was used in antiquity.

Small crack above nozzle, otherwise in excellent condition.

3.26 x 2.40 inches (8.3 x 6.1 cm)

From an American collection acquired in Israel. Ships from the United States.

Worldwide Shipping and Certificate of Authenticity included in price.
