The first known lamps are simple wheel made bowls, with a slight pinch on four sides for the wick. Later, lamps have only one pinch for the wick. These types of lamps differ in the shape of the rim, the general shape of the bowl and the shape of the base.
Culture - Period : Canaanite - Holy Land - Bronze Age 2350-1400 B.C
First Oil Lamp: Early Bronze to Middle Bronze Age 2350-1750 BC. Four spout lamp.
The lamp measures 14.1 cm diagonally and stands 4.8 cm high. The walls of the lamp are about 5 mm thick, and the lamp has a flat, unfinished bottom. Traces of soot are visible in each of the four wick rests , traces of potters wheel on oil lamp body , Intact and very good condition.
Second Lamp :Middle Bronze Age lamp, single spout, rim straight up like a bowl. 2200-1550 BC. Lamp fabric is gritty gray clay with large quartz inclusions, and the lamp is 11.1 cm long, 9.2 cm wide, and 2.9 cm high. The lamp has a slightly rounded tool-scraped bottom, and the wick rest has little soot, Very good condition , Intact
Third Lamp :
Late Bronze Age I Lamp. 1550-1400 BC. Formed of pinkish clay, with a flat bottom and a deep bowl. 14.5 cm long X 13.6 cm wide X 4.2 cm high. a trace of soot on the single spout, It was burnished on the potter's wheel. In the few places where the inner clay is exposed, it has coarse grits. minor chips on rim , Not repaired and not restored ..
All three lamps found in Hebron..
