A MICRO MOSAIC OF MADABA MAP JERUSALEM IN 18K GOLD AND DIAMOND PENDANT
Catalog:Jewelry:Gold and Silver: stock #1308953
Depicting one of the most significant mosaics of the Holy Land, this micro mosaic illustrates only a small part of the original Madaba Map, located in Madaba, Jordan at what is now the site of the church of St. George. Constructed in the 6th Century CE at the site of a Byzantine cathedral, this map is the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land and is regarded as the most accurate depiction predating modern cartography. It originally showed an area stretching from Lebanon to the Nile delta with the holy city of Jerusalem as its focus. Sadly, only about a third of this work survives today, although what does survive is of immense artistic and historical value.
Our micro mosaic pendant depicts the city of Jerusalem as represented on the Madaba Map enclosed within a 18K gold pendant adorned with gold doves on either side, a crown set with diamonds above and the word Jerusalem in gold script below. It is truly an exquisite piece of modern craftsmanship as much as it is an appreciation of ancient art.
All of our micro mosaic pendants are hand made from natural Jerusalem stone by highly skilled craftsmen and experts on ancient mosaics. They are created using the same techniques used to restore ancient mosaics.
