A ROMAN GLASS BEAKER

Eastern Mediterranean, c. 3rd Century CE

The free-blown beaker of blue-green glass is an excellent example of glassware for daily use. Composed primarily of a bag shaped body with slightly constricted neck and everted rim on a ring base. Decorative trailing is applied just below the neck constriction and four indentations are present on the body. These indentations are evidence of the tools used to blow the glass in addition to their decorative element. A pontil mark is present on the base.

In excellent condition with natural iridescence present.

Height: 10 cm (3.93 inches); Width: 8cm (3.15 inches)
